Description: Defines managed objects for monitoring Microsoft IIS HTTP server performance via SNMP.

IPNetwork Monitor uses several OIDs from this MIB in network discovery and polling the applicable devices. Start monitoring HTTPSERVER-MIB with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor.

What Is HTTPSERVER-MIB?

HTTPSERVER-MIB defines managed objects for monitoring a Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) HTTP server via SNMP, extending Windows Server management into the web-server layer. It belongs to the web-server/application-monitoring technology area and exposes operational performance data for the HTTP service — request and connection counts, throughput, and service status — rather than physical device hardware. Its value for status monitoring centers on software health: confirming the IIS service/website is up and responding, tracking current and total connections and request rates, and monitoring bytes transferred, together revealing whether the web service is overloaded, degraded, or unresponsive. As a Microsoft/Windows-oriented MIB it depends on the host's underlying SNMP agent (typically the Windows SNMP service) rather than a networking-hardware MIB tree. It is typically deployed on Windows Server hosts running IIS in environments using SNMP-based monitoring alongside or instead of native Windows performance counters. Engineers can download the HTTPSERVER-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HTTPSERVER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Windows Server host running Microsoft IIS

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were supplied for this module, so specific object names cannot be confirmed; consistent with its purpose an operator would poll IIS service statistics for current connections and total requests served to gauge web-server load, and check a service-status object to confirm the HTTP service is running, using a sudden drop in request throughput or a stopped-status indication to detect an application or service failure.

What Can Be Monitored

  • IIS service up/down status
  • current/total client connections
  • HTTP request rate
  • bytes sent/received by the web service
