What Is COLUBRIS-SMI?

COLUBRIS-SMI is a Structure of Management Information module that defines the top-level enterprise OID branch under which all Colubris Networks (later HP) wireless product MIBs, including COLUBRIS-LICENSE-MIB, are registered. It contains no monitorable leaf objects of its own - only OBJECT IDENTIFIER assignments and registration nodes - so it exposes no direct interface, environment, or performance data. It plays no direct role in monitoring hardware or software status; instead, every other Colubris/HP wireless MIB depends on it for its object-identifier prefix, making it a foundational dependency for the entire product MIB suite rather than a functional monitoring module. Because of this, actual status and configuration monitoring of Colubris/HP wireless gear (licensing state, radio status, client counts) happens through the sibling MIBs rooted here. It is used internally by MIB-loading tools and management stations when compiling the full Colubris/HP wireless MIB suite for controllers and access points. Administrators looking for a COLUBRIS-SMI download are typically after this registration module alongside its dependent MIBs, since a compiler needs all of them together to resolve the full Colubris/HP wireless object tree.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in COLUBRIS-SMI. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

What Can Be Monitored

  • OID registration hierarchy for Colubris/HP MIBs (structural only, no direct telemetry)

Supported Devices

  • Colubris/HP wireless LAN controllers
  • Colubris/HP wireless access points

Monitoring Examples

A MIB compiler or NMS loading Colubris/HP wireless support would import COLUBRIS-SMI first to resolve the OBJECT IDENTIFIER prefix used by every functional Colubris MIB, such as the coLicense objects defined in COLUBRIS-LICENSE-MIB. Because it defines no scalar or table objects itself, there is nothing to poll directly in this module - its only 'output' is the registration tree other modules build upon.
