Category: Device Management
Description: ISOview network management system MIB providing SNMP objects for topology visualization and device monitoring in ISO-compliant networks.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ISOVIEW-MIB?
ISOVIEW-MIB supports ISOview, a network management system used to visualize network topology and monitor devices across an ISO/OSI-compliant network environment. Based on its address-resolution-flavored sample object, it exposes network-layer identity and addressing information (such as address-to-device correlation data) that ISOview uses to build and display its topology maps and device inventory. Its monitoring emphasis is on network/software-level status such as device reachability and address mapping consistency, rather than deep hardware sensor data, helping an operator confirm that the topology view accurately reflects the live network and that devices are responding at expected addresses. As an OSI-era management MIB it likely depends on standard address-translation and system-group conventions found in early SNMP/OSI network management frameworks. It would have been deployed on network management stations and the devices they monitored in mixed OSI/TCP-IP enterprise networks. Engineers can download the ISOVIEW-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ISOVIEW-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
- network management stations and OSI/TCP-IP network devices
Monitoring Examples
An operator would query address-mapping objects such as arAddressInfo to correlate a device's network address with its topology entry in ISOview, confirming that the map's representation of a node matches its live address assignment. A mismatch or missing arAddressInfo entry for a device expected to be up would indicate either an addressing change or that the device has dropped off the network and needs re-discovery. This kind of check is typically run periodically to keep the topology display synchronized with reality.
What Can Be Monitored
- device address information
- address-to-node correlation
- topology/device reachability
