What Is CISCO-ES-STACK-MIB?
This MIB manages Cisco EtherSwitch module stacking within Catalyst chassis-based systems, providing objects for configuring and monitoring stack membership, network addressing, and firmware update workflows across stacked switch modules. It exposes stack-wide IP addressing (ciscoEsIpAddr, ciscoEsNetMask, ciscoEsDefaultGateway), system time, stack configuration and count of switches, stack status, and TFTP-based firmware/configuration download settings (server, domain, file location) along with a locking mechanism for configuration changes. This MIB is used for monitoring both the software configuration state and hardware topology status of an EtherSwitch stack, tracking ciscoEsStackStatus and ciscoEsNumSwitches to confirm all expected stack members are present and operational, and ciscoEsProStackMatrixStatus for stack matrix health, as well as supporting firmware upgrade status via TFTP settings. It has no notable dependency on external standard MIBs beyond Cisco's own EtherSwitch/workgroup architecture. It is deployed on Cisco Catalyst chassis systems with EtherSwitch service modules configured in a stack, and the CISCO-ES-STACK-MIB MIB is the reference administrators consult when monitoring or troubleshooting stack membership on those systems.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-ES-STACK-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll ciscoEsStackStatus and ciscoEsNumSwitches to confirm the expected number of switches are actively part of the stack, and check ciscoEsProStackMatrixStatus to detect a broken stack interconnect. ciscoEsTftpServer, ciscoEsTftpServerDomain, and ciscoEsTftpFileLoc reveal the source used for firmware or configuration downloads, useful when diagnosing a failed stack-wide firmware update, while ciscoEsSetLock indicates whether configuration changes are currently locked to prevent conflicting updates.
