What Is CPQHLTH-MIB?

CPQHLTH-MIB is Compaq's (now HPE's) Server Health MIB, developed for the Insight Management Agents running on Compaq/HP ProLiant servers, and it is one of the most widely deployed hardware-health MIBs in enterprise data centers. It exposes hardware-focused monitoring data covering thermal sensors and temperature thresholds, redundant fan status, power supply presence and state, an Automatic Server Recovery (ASR) watchdog, and a POST (power-on self-test) error log. Its central purpose is monitoring the physical hardware status of a server: administrators use it to check temperature readings against warning/critical thresholds, confirm fans and power supplies are all in a 'good' operational state, verify ASR is armed to reboot a hung system, and review POST error history for boot-time hardware faults. Because the cpqhlth-mib is bundled with virtually every HP/Compaq Insight Management Agent installation, it remains one of the most commonly polled hardware-health modules in ProLiant fleets even on older server generations. It has no strong dependency on other MIBs beyond standard SNMPv2-SMI conventions, since it is a self-contained proprietary hardware-agent MIB. It is deployed wherever Compaq/HP ProLiant servers run the HP/Compaq Insight/Health agent software, typically alongside CPQHOST and other Compaq/HP array/NIC MIBs.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CPQHLTH-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples

A typical monitoring scenario involves polling the thermal sensor table for each zone's current temperature and comparing it to its configured threshold to catch overheating before shutdown, and walking the fan and power supply status tables to confirm every redundant fan and PSU reports a normal/OK condition rather than 'failed' or 'degraded.' Administrators also check the ASR status object to confirm the automatic-recovery watchdog is enabled, and review the POST error log entries to spot recurring hardware faults (e.g., memory or disk controller errors) reported at boot. A fan or power supply entry flipping from 'ok' to 'failed', or a temperature sensor exceeding its critical threshold, are the classic anomalies this MIB is polled to detect.
