What Is CISCO-LWAPP-AP-MIB?

CISCO-LWAPP-AP-MIB is a Cisco-specific MIB implemented on Wireless LAN Controllers (WLCs) that terminate the Lightweight Access Point Protocol (LWAPP) tunnel from Cisco lightweight access points. It exposes configuration and status data about each 802.11 access point joined to the controller, including per-AP identity, interface addressing, and radio/Ethernet slot inventory. It is heavily used for hardware and software status monitoring: cLApUpTime and cLLwappUpTime track how long an AP and its LWAPP tunnel session have been running, while cLLwappJoinTakenTime reveals how long an AP took to join the controller, helping flag flaky or slow-joining APs. The MIB depends on the controller's entPhysicalIndex mapping (via cLApEntPhysicalIndex, tied to ENTITY-MIB) to correlate APs with physical inventory entries. Monitoring Examples

An administrator can walk cLApTable/cLApEntry to enumerate every joined AP by cLApName and cLApSysMacAddress, then check cLApUpTime and cLLwappUpTime to spot an AP that recently rebooted or lost its LWAPP session. An abnormally high cLLwappJoinTakenTime for a given AP can indicate network congestion or discovery delays during join. cLApMaxNumberOfDot11Slots and cLApMaxNumberOfEthernetSlots describe the AP's radio and Ethernet port capacity for inventory audits, while ciscoLwappApMIBNotifs supplies traps for AP join/disjoin events.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using cLApUpTime OID:

Select a Cisco Wireless LAN Controller (WLC) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type cLApUpTime into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports, in TimeTicks (hundredths of a second), how long the access point has been running since it last rebooted. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a TimeTicks-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the reported uptime drops sharply between polls, which indicates the AP has unexpectedly rebooted. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
