What Is CISCO-LWAPP-CCX-RM-MIB?

CISCO-LWAPP-CCX-RM-MIB is a Cisco wireless-networking MIB implemented on wireless LAN controllers (central controllers) that terminate the LWAPP tunnel from Cisco Lightweight Access Points, supporting Cisco Compatible Extensions (CCX) radio-management features. It exposes configuration and status data related to 802.11a/802.11b radio beaconing behavior, both globally and per access-point interface, along with a notification group for related events. Its monitoring value lies in tracking the operational configuration of AP radios, such as whether beaconing is enabled and at what interval, which affects client roaming, location services, and RF measurement accuracy rather than classic hardware health metrics like temperature or CPU. It is tightly coupled to the Cisco LWAPP/CAPWAP architecture and depends on the underlying wireless controller and AP inventory being modeled elsewhere (e.g. CISCO-LWAPP-AP-MIB). It is deployed in enterprise Wi-Fi environments using Cisco unified wireless controllers managing lightweight access points. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the CISCO-LWAPP-CCX-RM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-LWAPP-CCX-RM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco Wireless LAN Controller
  • Cisco Lightweight Access Point (CCX-capable)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator could poll clcrdot11aBeaconEnabled and clcrdot11aBeaconInterval (and their 802.11b counterparts) to confirm beacon transmission settings are consistent across the RF domain, or walk clcrAPIfTable/clcrAPIfEntry to check per-AP-interface overrides such as clcrAPIfOverrideGlobal and clcrAPIfBeaconEnabled. A mismatch between the expected global beacon interval and a per-AP clcrAPIfBeaconIntvl value would reveal a misconfigured access point that could disrupt CCX-based client location or measurement features. The ciscoLwappCcxRmMIBNotifs group would be watched for related configuration-change traps.

What Can Be Monitored

  • 802.11a/802.11b beacon enable state
  • beacon interval configuration
  • per-AP-interface beacon overrides
  • AP radio management configuration

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using clcrClientRxPowerSignal OID:

Select a Cisco Wireless LAN Controller / Lightweight Access Point (CCX) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type clcrClientRxPowerSignal into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. This object represents the signal strength of the beacon or probe response frame as seen by the client. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an Integer32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the reading drifts outside the range expected for a healthy link (in dBm), since a sustained power drop often precedes a fiber/cable fault or connector issue. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
