Category: Cisco Devices, Device Management, SNMP Framework
Description: Defines SNMP agent capability statements for the Cisco Common Management MIB framework across device platforms.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-COMMON-MGMT-CAPABILITY?
This module is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance statement for the CISCO-COMMON-MGMT-MIB, part of Cisco's general device management instrumentation framework spanning IOS, IOS-XE and related platforms. Rather than exposing any runtime data itself, it enumerates which object groups and variations of the companion MIB a particular agent implementation supports. As a conformance module it carries no hardware or software status information of its own — no uptime, temperature, CPU, memory, or fault counters — it only declares implementation compliance. Its only notable dependency is CISCO-COMMON-MGMT-MIB, whose actual runtime objects it describes support for. It is used internally by SNMP management platforms and MIB compilers as a CISCO-COMMON-MGMT-CAPABILITY reference to determine feature/version compatibility before polling, not for live device monitoring itself.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-COMMON-MGMT-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco routers and switches (IOS/IOS-XE) implementing CISCO-COMMON-MGMT-MIB
Monitoring Examples
This is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module with no runtime data objects (sample_objects is empty), so there is no monitoring scenario to describe honestly. It exists only to declare which CISCO-COMMON-MGMT-MIB object groups a given Cisco platform implements.
