Category: ATM Networking, Nortel MsCarrier MscPassport

Description: Defines core SNMP management objects for ATM switching fabric and connection management on Nortel MsCarrier MscPassport.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-AtmCoreMIB?

Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-AtmCoreMIB is a proprietary Nortel module, part of the same MsCarrier MscPassport MIB family as the base shelf MIB, covering the core ATM switching fabric and connection management of the Passport platform. It exposes ATM interface provisioning/row-status tables, customer-identifier-to-interface mapping, and ATM connection cross-connect map data. It is directly useful for monitoring hardware/software operational status: the row-status fields reveal whether an ATM interface is active or has failed provisioning, while the customer-identifier mapping and connection map let an admin verify that ATM cross-connects match expected customer service bindings. It shares naming conventions with sibling MsCarrier MIBs (such as the base shelf MIB) and conceptually parallels, without directly depending on, the standard ATM-MIB (RFC 1695). It is deployed on Nortel/Magellan Passport carrier ATM switches used in telecom core and edge ATM networks. An administrator opening this module in a Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-AtmCoreMIB MIB Browser session can quickly locate these row-status and cross-connect objects for a specific ATM interface.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-AtmCoreMIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nortel/Magellan Passport (MscPassport) ATM carrier switch

Monitoring Examples

mscAtmIfRowStatusTable/Entry rows track the provisioning lifecycle (e.g. active, notInService) of each ATM interface identified by mscAtmIfIndex; mscAtmIfCidDataTable maps mscAtmIfCustomerIdentifier to a specific ATM interface for customer/service correlation, and mscAtmIfConnMap exposes the ATM cross-connect mapping, letting an admin detect an interface stuck in a non-active row status or an unexpected customer-to-interface binding.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ATM interface row/provisioning status
  • customer identifier to interface mapping
  • ATM connection cross-connect map
  • ATM interface storage type
