What Is CTATM-CONFIG-MIB?

CTATM-CONFIG-MIB is a Cabletron Systems (later Enterasys) enterprise MIB that configures ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) interface parameters on Cabletron switching and routing hardware. It exposes ATM-specific configuration data such as PVC and LAN Emulation Client (LEC) interface definitions, default application mappings per interface, ATM framer status, and physical redundancy settings. From a monitoring standpoint it is used to check hardware status of ATM line cards, particularly framer status (whether the physical ATM framer is synchronized or in alarm) and physical redundancy state (whether a backup ATM module has taken over), which are key hardware-health indicators for ATM interfaces. It builds on the standard interface indexing model (IF-MIB ifIndex) to correlate its tables with generic interface counters. It is typically deployed in legacy enterprise or carrier-edge networks running Cabletron/Enterasys ATM switching equipment. Engineers can download the CTATM-CONFIG-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll ctATMFramerStatusTable/ctATMFramerStatusEntry (keyed by ctATMFramerStatusIfIndex) to detect ATM framer synchronization loss on a given interface, and check ctATMPhysicalRedundancy/ctATMPhysicalRedundancyInterface to confirm whether a redundant ATM module has failed over. The ctATMDefApplicationTable maps applications (e.g., LANE, classical IP over ATM) to specific interfaces via ctATMDefApplicationIfIndex, useful for verifying configuration consistency after a card reboot. A sudden ctATMFramerStatus change to an alarm state combined with a redundancy switchover would indicate an ATM physical-layer hardware fault.
