Category: ATM, Vendor: Ascend/Lucent

Description: Manages ATM interface configuration and performance counters on Ascend ATM-capable equipment.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ASCEND-MIBATMIF-MIB?

ASCEND-MIBATMIF-MIB is a proprietary Ascend Communications module that manages ATM interface configuration and performance data on Ascend's ATM-capable equipment, such as the APX/GRF switches and MAX units with ATM uplinks. It exposes interface-level configuration (VPI/VCI ranges, interface types) alongside performance counters covering cell throughput, errors, and interface status. For hardware/software monitoring it is chiefly useful for tracking interface operational (up/down) state and cell-level error or discard counts, which reveal physical-layer or framing problems on an ATM link before they escalate to service outages. It parallels, but does not directly extend, the IETF ATM-MIB (RFC 2515) family, reimplementing similar concepts under Ascend's own object tree. It is typically deployed on WAN edge or core equipment carrying ATM-encapsulated traffic in carrier and enterprise networks, where the ASCEND-MIBATMIF-MIB MIB is polled to confirm ATM interface health.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ASCEND-MIBATMIF-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ascend APX/GRF ATM switch
  • Ascend MAX with ATM uplink

Monitoring Examples

sample_objects was empty for this module, so no specific table names can be cited; the description below reflects the module's declared scope. An operator would poll ATM interface entries to check operational status and cumulative cell error/loss counts, flagging a link as degraded if error counts climb while cell throughput drops. This kind of polling is typically paired with ATM port-level MIBs from the same vendor for a full picture of link health.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ATM interface operational status
  • cell error/loss counts
  • ATM interface configuration (VPI/VCI ranges)
  • interface cell throughput
