ctATMFramerStatus

Module: CTATM-CONFIG-MIB

OID (symbolic): CTATM-CONFIG-MIB::ctATMFramerStatus

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.52.4.1.2.10.1.1.4.1.2

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: Setting this object to on will activate the Framer MIBs as specified by either RFC-1595 or RFC-1407 depending on whether the interface uses SONET framing or DS3 framing respectively. i.e., setting it to on will permit gathering of framer statistics at the expense of processing time. However it might be a valuable debugging aid to turn on the framer MIB.

Setting this object to off will not activate the respective framer MIBS. Thus saving processing time.

It is emphasised that collection of statistics for the framer is resource (processor, memory) intensive.

This object is persistent.

What is ctATMFramerStatus?

This read-write INTEGER, on or off, activates per-RFC-1595 SONET or per-RFC-1407 DS3 framer statistics gathering on the interface when set on, at the cost of extra processing overhead, or deactivates it when set off. An admin turns this on temporarily as a debugging aid when investigating an ATM physical-layer problem. For example, setting this to on(1) while diagnosing intermittent ATM link errors lets the admin pull detailed SONET framer counters, then setting it back to off(2) afterward to avoid the ongoing processing cost.
