Category: Device Management, Vendor: Cabletron/Enterasys
Description: Manages Cabletron timed reset scheduling for automated device reboots at configured time intervals.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CTRON-TIMED-RESET-MIB?
CTRON-TIMED-RESET-MIB is a Cabletron (Enterasys) enterprise MIB that manages a scheduled/timed reset feature on Cabletron devices, letting an administrator configure the device to automatically reboot after a specified interval. It exposes objects for the current reset status, the time the schedule was entered, time remaining until reset, and the operational mode (e.g., whether the timed reset uses NVRAM-persisted settings). Its monitoring value is squarely about software/system status: ctTimedResetStatus and ctTimedResetTimeRemaining let an operator confirm whether a device has a pending scheduled reboot and how soon it will occur, important context when unexplained downtime is observed or when verifying a planned maintenance reboot is armed correctly. It is a small, self-contained utility MIB without strong dependency on other standard MIBs beyond basic SNMPv2-SMI conventions. It is deployed on Cabletron/Enterasys switches and routers where administrators schedule maintenance reboots (e.g., after a configuration change requiring a restart) via SNMP rather than local console access. Engineers can download the CTRON-TIMED-RESET-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CTRON-TIMED-RESET-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cabletron/Enterasys switch or router
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll ctTimedResetStatus and ctTimedResetTimeRemaining to confirm a scheduled reset is armed and see how long until it triggers, useful right after setting one up remotely. ctTimedResetTimeEntered lets the admin verify when the reset was scheduled, and ctTimedResetOperationalMode shows whether the reset will persist across an NVRAM save (related to ctTimedResetNVRamReset). If a device unexpectedly rebooted and ctTimedResetStatus shows no pending reset was active at the time, that would rule out the timed-reset feature as the cause and point to a different fault.
What Can Be Monitored
- scheduled reset status
- time remaining until reset
- time reset was scheduled
- reset operational mode (NVRAM persistence)
