What Is CTRON-MIB-NAMES?

CTRON-MIB-NAMES is a Cabletron (later Enterasys) registry module that catalogs MIB module names and assigns OID subtrees for the many Cabletron/Enterasys product MIBs, including physical device, chassis, and repeater management modules. It belongs to the enterprise networking equipment (switches, hubs, repeaters) category and functions as an index/registration module rather than a source of live telemetry. Compiling any dependent Cabletron/Enterasys MIB requires having the CTRON-MIB-NAMES MIB file available locally, since it is where those OID subtree assignments are actually declared. It defines organizational nodes such as ctPhysical, chassis, repeaterRev4, and ctPhysRptrMim that anchor other Cabletron MIBs' object trees, but does not itself expose interface counters, environmental sensors, or fault traps for direct polling of hardware/software status. Its purpose is purely structural: it depends on and organizes the broader family of Cabletron/Enterasys hardware and repeater MIBs. It is deployed as a compile-time naming/registration dependency in legacy Cabletron/Enterasys network environments.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CTRON-MIB-NAMES. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Extreme Networks 7520 Series (2022) — current universal fabric switch, successor line to Cabletron/Enterasys switching

Monitoring Examples

This module defines organizational nodes such as mibs, ctron, ctPhysical, chassis, repeaterRev4, and ctPhysRptrMim that register OID subtrees for Cabletron/Enterasys product MIBs, rather than exposing runtime instance data of its own. There is no realistic monitoring scenario for this module directly; actual chassis slot status, repeater port counters, or physical module health would be polled from the specific Cabletron MIBs anchored under these registered nodes. This is honestly a name/OID registry module, not a monitoring target.
