Category: DOCSIS and Cable
Description: Manages topology discovery and network mapping objects for the COM21 HCX cable system.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is COM21-HCXTOP-MIB?
This is the Com21 ComController "Unit Control" MIB (part of the HCX product line), providing overall high-level control of the ComController chassis and the comUNITY hybrid fiber-coax cable system it belongs to. It exposes system-wide configuration and topology/discovery data used to map and control units within a comUNITY cable network, alongside general chassis control objects. This makes it useful for monitoring the overall hardware/software status of the ComController unit itself - whether it is reachable/operational and its role within the topology - rather than any single sub-card. It complements other COM21 modules (e.g., HCXRX, HCXVLAN) that cover specific cards/features of the same chassis, and may lean on standard SNMPv2 conventions for its object definitions. It would typically be used by a cable operator's NOC to maintain and monitor the topology and overall control status of ComController units deployed at the headend. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the COM21-HCXTOP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in COM21-HCXTOP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- COM21 ComController headend unit
- cable/HFC broadband access equipment
Monitoring Examples
No object or table names were supplied in the sampled data for this MIB. Given the module description, it would realistically expose topology-discovery and unit-control objects - e.g., a table of discovered/neighboring ComController units and overall unit-control status - that an operator would poll to detect an offline or misconfigured unit in the comUNITY network. This is a general characterization, not a citation of confirmed OIDs.
What Can Be Monitored
- overall unit control status
- topology/neighbor discovery data
- comUNITY system role
