Organization: Broadband Access Systems, Inc.

Last Updated: 1998-11-17

Category: Alarm and Event Management, DOCSIS and Cable

Description: Defines event logging and notification objects for BAS CMTS system events and alarms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is BAS-EVENT-MIB?

BAS-EVENT-MIB is a Broadband Access Systems, Inc. vendor-specific extension MIB (per its own CONTACT-INFO) that models SNMP trap-distribution configuration for its broadband access/CMTS platform interfaces. It defines basTrapRecipientTable, which configures where traps are sent (basTrapRecipientIpAddr, basTrapRecipientUdpPort, basTrapRecipientCommName, basTrapRecipientSnmpVersion) with row lifecycle control via basTrapRecipientRowStatus, and basTrapNotificationTable, which maps specific notification OIDs (basTrapNotificationId) to recipients via basTrapNotificationIndex. This makes it useful for monitoring and auditing an access device's trap-forwarding configuration — confirming which management stations receive which alarm notifications and at which SNMP version — rather than exposing hardware sensors directly. It depends on the parent BAS-MIB (basExtEvent) for its OID placement and on SNMPv2-TC (RowStatus) and SNMPv2-SMI conventions, and administrators can consult the BAS-EVENT-MIB MIB when auditing trap-recipient configuration on Broadband Access Systems equipment.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BAS-EVENT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Broadband Access Systems CMTS/broadband access platforms

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls basTrapRecipientTable to confirm a specific basTrapRecipientIpAddr/basTrapRecipientUdpPort pair is configured with an active basTrapRecipientRowStatus, and cross-checks basTrapNotificationTable for the expected basTrapNotificationId entries; a recipient row stuck in a non-active RowStatus would explain why expected alarm traps are not reaching a management station.

What Can Be Monitored

  • trap recipient IP address and UDP port configuration
  • trap recipient community name and SNMP version
  • trap recipient row status/lifecycle
  • notification-to-recipient mapping table entries
