Category: DOCSIS and Cable, Quality of Service, Vendor: ARRIS

Description: Manages dynamic QoS gate configuration for PacketCable multimedia service authorization on ARRIS/Cadant CMTS.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CADANT-DQOS-GATE-MIB?

CADANT-DQOS-GATE-MIB is an ARRIS/Cadant proprietary MIB for the Cadant C4 CMTS (cable modem termination system), covering the PacketCable Dynamic Quality-of-Service (DQoS) "Gate" client used for per-flow service authorization in COPS-based cable telephony/multimedia deployments. It exposes configuration and state data for DQoS gates, including subscriber ID and classifier fields (protocol, source/destination IP and port) used to match traffic flows, along with gate commit and resource-reservation controls. Monitoring-wise it is oriented toward service and session software status rather than raw hardware health: operators track gate resource IDs and commit state to confirm that QoS reservations for VoIP/multimedia calls are being correctly authorized and enforced. It explicitly depends on the standard COPS protocol objects defined in RFC 2940, since the DQoS gate client rides on top of COPS signaling. It is deployed in cable-operator head-ends running Cadant CMTS equipment that supports PacketCable-based voice and multimedia services to residential subscribers. Engineers can download the CADANT-DQOS-GATE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CADANT-DQOS-GATE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • ARRIS/Cadant C4 CMTS (cable modem termination system)

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll cadDQoSGateTable/cadDQoSGateEntry keyed by cadDQoSGateId to inspect cadDQoSGateSubscriberID together with the classifier fields cadDQoSGateClassifierSrcIP/DestIP and cadDQoSGateClassifierSrcPort/DestPort, confirming a subscriber's voice flow has an active, correctly matched QoS gate. If cadDQoSMgmtGateCommitNotAllowed is set or cadDQoSGateResourceID fails to populate, that flags a failed resource reservation preventing the call's QoS from being honored. The cadDQoSGateAutoCommit setting also reveals whether gates are auto-committed or awaiting external COPS policy decisions.

What Can Be Monitored

  • DQoS gate subscriber ID
  • flow classifier (source/destination IP and port)
  • gate resource ID / commit status
  • gate auto-commit setting
  • gate resource reservation state
