What Is TIMETRA-PPP-MIB?

TIMETRA-PPP-MIB is a Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent 7750 SR (Timetra/SROS) proprietary MIB that manages Point-to-Point Protocol link configuration, LCP (Link Control Protocol) negotiation parameters, and PPP session state on service router hardware. It exposes a mix of configuration data (link phase, local/remote addressing) and operational/performance counters such as keepalive intervals, dropped-keepalive counts, and threshold-exceeded counts for PPP sessions. Its monitoring value centers on software/link status: tmnxPppLinkPhase reveals whether a PPP link is up, negotiating, or terminating, while the keepalive counters (tmnxPppKaDropCount, tmnxPppKaThresholdExceedsCount) reveal degrading link health before a full outage occurs, making this MIB valuable for proactive PPP session fault detection. It is part of the broader TIMETRA/SROS MIB family, and the TIMETRA-PPP-MIB OID tree depends on standard IF-MIB interface indexing conventions to correlate PPP sessions with physical/logical interfaces. Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll tmnxPppTable/tmnxPppEntry, keyed to an interface, to check tmnxPppLinkPhase and tmnxPppRemoteAddress for the negotiated PPP peer, and would watch tmnxPppKaDropCount and tmnxPppKaThresholdExceedsCount to catch keepalive failures. A rising tmnxPppKaDropCount alongside tmnxPppKaLastClearedTime showing no recent reset would reveal an unstable PPP link that is dropping keepalives and at risk of going down. tmnxPppLineMonitorMethod and tmnxPppKaPeriod would be checked to confirm the monitoring method and interval configured for that link.
