What Is NNC-ATM-CONGESTIONSTATISTICS-MIB?
NNC-ATM-CONGESTIONSTATISTICS-MIB is a Newbridge Networks vendor-specific MIB that monitors congestion behavior at ATM switching points on Newbridge's 36170 ATM switch platform, tracking cell-level congestion across raw, short-interval, and long-interval statistics tables. Its nncAtmCongPointInfoTable identifies each congestion point and its nncAtmCongPointHardwareType (card/queue/QOS/fabric configuration), while nncAtmCongStatsRawTable exposes cumulative counters — nncAtmCongStatsTotalCellsArrived, nncAtmCongStatsTotalCellsDiscarded, nncAtmCongStatsClp0CellsDiscarded — plus per-severity accumulated time in nncAtmCongStatsLowCongestedSeconds/MediumCongestedSeconds/SevereCongestedSeconds and a live nncAtmCongStatsCurrentCongestionState and nncAtmCongStatsAlarmStatus. Parallel current/historical short- and long-interval tables (nncAtmCongStatsCurrentShortIntvlTable, nncAtmCongStatsShortIntvlTable, and their long-interval counterparts) let operators trend congestion over time rather than just view cumulative totals. It depends on ENTITY-MIB for PhysicalIndex correlation and NNC-INTERVAL-STATISTICS-TC-MIB for interval-state typing, and is deployed on Newbridge 36170 ATM switches in service-provider ATM backbones, where engineers consult the NNC-ATM-CONGESTIONSTATISTICS-MIB OID tree when investigating cell loss.

Monitoring Examples
An operator polls nncAtmCongStatsCurrentCongestionState and nncAtmCongStatsAlarmStatus for a congestion point to see if it is currently congested, then checks nncAtmCongStatsClp0CellsDiscarded against nncAtmCongStatsTotalCellsArrived to quantify cell loss under load; rising nncAtmCongStatsSevereCongestedSeconds across successive short-interval samples would indicate a persistent, worsening congestion condition at that switching point.

The hardware type is a function of: - type of card, - queue and QOS configuration based on ASIC used on the card, - fabric type, - switch profile, - congestion point. The Congestion Point Index is to be used as nncAtmCongPointInfoIndex, nncAtmCongPointRawIndex, nncAtmCongPointCurrentShortIntvlIndex, nncAtmCongPointShortIntvlIndex, nncAtmCongPointCurrentLongIntvlIndex, and nncAtmCongPointLongIntvlIndex. Table 2 consists of columns for each hardware type indicating which qualities of service are available for the particular hardware type. The Index column associates a number for each quality of service, which is used as the nncAtmCongStatsQOSRawIndex, nncAtmCongStatsQOSCurrentShortIntvlIndex, nncAtmCongStatsQOSShortIntvlIndex,
