What Is CISCO-VISM-SVC-MIB?

CISCO-VISM-SVC-MIB manages ATM Switched Virtual Circuit (SVC) signaling and configuration for Cisco's VISM voice gateway modules on the MGX platform. It exposes counters covering the full SVC signaling lifecycle — call setup, call proceeding, connect, connect-acknowledge, release, and release-complete messages sent and received — along with SVC configuration and QoS-related object groups. These counters allow monitoring of the software/signaling health of the voice trunking card: mismatches between transmitted and received setup/release messages, or elevated release counts relative to successful connects, indicate signaling problems, misconfigured peers, or overload conditions on the module. It builds on the same VISM module family as CISCO-VISM-CAC-MIB and CISCO-VISM-MODULE-MIB for shared context. It is deployed in legacy Cisco MGX-based ATM voice gateway networks using SVC-based, rather than PVC-based, ATM signaling for voice trunks. Engineers can download the CISCO-VISM-SVC-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-VISM-SVC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples

An operator would track vismSvcTxSetups against vismSvcRxConnAcks over a polling interval; a growing gap where setups are sent but connect-acknowledgements are not received back would reveal failed call establishment on that VISM card. Comparing vismSvcTxReleases and vismSvcRxReleaseCompls helps confirm that circuit teardown is completing cleanly rather than leaving stranded SVCs. The vismSvcAtmQosGrp group would be checked when call quality complaints arise, to verify the QoS parameters applied to the SVC signaling path.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using vismSvcTxSetups OID:

Select a Cisco VISM (Voice Interworking Service Module) card, MGX platform (legacy) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type vismSvcTxSetups into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. This is the number of Setup messages sent to the PXM(Processor Switch Module) from the VISM since VISM reset. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
