What Is NNCGNI0001-SMI?

NNCGNI0001-SMI is Newbridge Networks' GNI SMI root module -- Newbridge being a networking/ATM carrier-equipment vendor later absorbed into Alcatel -- defining the enterprise OID registration structure under which Newbridge's GNI-related MIB modules register their objects. As a pure SMI/registration module it exposes no runtime monitoring data itself; actual hardware and software status such as uptime, faults, or performance is reported through child MIBs anchored beneath this root. Its module description in fact documents only a compatibility type note (an Unsigned32 substitute for SNMPv1), underscoring its role as low-level plumbing rather than a functional monitoring MIB. It is built on SNMPv1/SNMPv2-SMI conventions for OID and type compatibility. It is encountered only indirectly when compiling Newbridge Networks GNI-family device MIBs, and the NNCGNI0001-SMI MIB is typically loaded only as an import dependency rather than something an operator polls or browses directly.
