What Is CISCO-XGCP-MIB?
CISCO-XGCP-MIB manages Cisco's xGCP (a superset covering SGCP and MGCP) media gateway control protocol configuration and statistics, used where a call agent/Media Gateway Controller (MGC) coordinates a set of media gateways converting between circuit and packet voice/ATM signals in VoIP/VoATM deployments. It exposes configuration for call agent (MGC) group membership and addressing, plus per-media-gateway protocol behavior such as request timeouts, retry counts, and retry methods. Monitoring it centers on the health of the call-control relationship: the MGC configuration table reveals which MGC addresses and UDP ports a gateway is configured to register with, while the media gateway table's request timeout/retry settings and counts help diagnose signaling instability between gateway and controller, excessive retries suggest network or MGC-side problems. It depends on the underlying xGCP/MGCP/SGCP protocol family it manages and complements Cisco's voice gateway hardware MIBs. It is deployed on Cisco voice gateways and media gateway controllers in VoIP/VoATM telephony networks. Engineers can download the CISCO-XGCP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples
Polling cXgcpMgcConfigTable/cXgcpMgcConfigEntry, keyed by cXgcpMgcConfigMgcGrpNum, shows the configured cXgcpMgcConfigAddress and cXgcpMgcConfigGatewayUdpPort a gateway uses to reach its call agent; an address mismatch would explain a gateway failing to register with its MGC. cXgcpMediaGwTable/cXgcpMediaGwEntry exposes cXgcpMediaGwRequestTimeOut and cXgcpMediaGwRequestRetries, where rising retry counts against a normally stable baseline indicate degraded signaling connectivity to the call agent. cXgcpNotifications would trap the operator when such failures occur.

Connections and calls are set up at the initiative of one or several call agents. Terminologies used: AAL : ATM Adaptation Layer AUCX : Audit Connection Command used by the MGC to find out the status of a given gateway connection. AUEP : Audit Endpoint Command used by the MGC to find out the status of a given endpoint. CCAPI : Call Control Application Program Interface. CID : Channel Identifier CRCX : Connection Command from a MGC to request the gateway MG : Media Gateway MGC : Media Gateway Controller DLCX : Delete Command.
