Description: Defines agent capability statements for Cisco VSI (Voice Service Interface) controller management.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-VSI-CONTROLLER-CAPABILITY?
CISCO-VSI-CONTROLLER-CAPABILITY is a Cisco AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module that documents which parts of the CISCO-VSI-CONTROLLER-MIB a particular agent implementation supports, in the domain of Cisco's ATM/voice Virtual Switch Interface (VSI) controller technology. Rather than exposing runtime data itself, it defines conformance statements listing supported object groups, tables, and compliance levels for the companion VSI controller MIB used in legacy Cisco ATM switching platforms. It is used by network management systems to determine, at MIB-compilation or capability-negotiation time, which VSI controller management features a given device software release actually implements, rather than to report hardware or software operational status directly. Because it exists solely to describe support for CISCO-VSI-CONTROLLER-MIB, it has an inherent, explicit dependency on that MIB and on the standard AGENT-CAPABILITIES-MIB framework its syntax derives from. It would typically be found bundled with the MIB set shipped for Cisco ATM switch controller cards (e.g., BPX/MGX VSI controllers) rather than deployed for active fault/performance polling, so the CISCO-VSI-CONTROLLER-CAPABILITY MIB is typically consulted only during MIB compilation.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-VSI-CONTROLLER-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco ATM VSI controller (BPX/MGX switch controller card)
Monitoring Examples
As an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module, CISCO-VSI-CONTROLLER-CAPABILITY defines no runtime data objects of its own (no OBJECT-TYPE tables or scalars), so it cannot be polled for monitoring information; sample_objects is empty because there is nothing to instantiate. Its sole purpose is to declare, via SUPPORTS clauses, which groups from CISCO-VSI-CONTROLLER-MIB a given agent release implements. Network management tools use it during MIB compilation to validate compatibility, not during live polling.
