What Is CISCO-NETSYNC-MIB?

CISCO-NETSYNC-MIB is a Cisco enterprise MIB (module ciscoNetsyncMIB under ciscoMgmt) that models Synchronous Ethernet (SyncE) and ITU-T G.781 clock selection for network timing/frequency distribution on Cisco routing platforms. It exposes the global clock-selection process state in cnsClkSelGlobalTable (cnsClkSelGlobProcessMode, cnsClkSelGlobClockMode, cnsClkSelGlobNetsyncEnable, cnsClkSelGlobEECOption, cnsClkSelGlobHoldoffTime/WtrTime), the currently selected T0 source in cnsSelectedInputSourceTable (cnsSelInpSrcQualityLevel, cnsSelInpSrcFSW/MSW), and all configured candidate clock sources in cnsInputSourceTable (cnsInpSrcQualityLevel, cnsInpSrcSignalFailure, cnsInpSrcAlarm, cnsInpSrcLockout). This data is central to verifying that a device is correctly locked to a traceable clock source via ESMC/SSM signaling rather than free-running or in holdover, which matters for services sensitive to frequency slips. It depends on the underlying SyncE-capable interfaces referenced by cnsInpSrcName and the ITU-T G.781 clock-selection framework, and administrators can download the CISCO-NETSYNC-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls cnsClkSelGlobClockMode and cnsSelInpSrcQualityLevel to confirm the router's system clock is in netsyncClockModeLocked state with an acceptable quality level rather than netsyncClockModeHoldover; a source flipping to cnsInpSrcSignalFailure or cnsInpSrcAlarm true would indicate an incoming timing reference has failed, risking clock quality degradation.
