Module: CISCO-NETSYNC-MIB

OID (symbolic): CISCO-NETSYNC-MIB::cnsInpSrcESMCCap

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.761.1.1.3.1.5

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: CiscoNetsyncESMCCap

Access: read-only

Description: This object indicates the ESMC capability of an input clock source configured for the T0 clock selection. This is applicable only to Synchronous Ethernet input clock source identified by cnsInpSrcIntfType 'netsyncIfTypeEthernet'.

What is cnsInpSrcESMCCap?

This object reports whether a given candidate clock source supports the ESMC protocol for exchanging quality-level information, a capability that per the description is only meaningful for sources of the Synchronous Ethernet interface type. It matters because a SyncE source without ESMC capability enabled can still supply a physical timing signal but will not participate in automatic quality-level-based ranking, so the device may end up trusting a locally-configured QL value instead of a dynamically advertised one. An admin seeing this report not-capable on what should be an ESMC-aware upstream switch link would know to investigate why ESMC negotiation is not working on that port.
