It matters for capacity and redundancy assessment; a device relying on just one or two sources has little protection if its primary clock reference fails, whereas one with several configured sources has more failover options. An admin seeing this drop unexpectedly from, say, 4 to 2 configured sources should investigate whether a source was inadvertently removed or lost its configuration.
