All MIBs › CABLETRON-TRAPS
Category: Alarm and Event Management, Vendor: Cabletron/Enterasys
Description: Defines SNMP trap notifications for Cabletron Systems (Enterasys) network devices including fault and status change events.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CABLETRON-TRAPS?
CABLETRON-TRAPS is a legacy vendor-specific MIB (originally Cabletron Systems, later maintained by Enterasys Networks) that defines enterprise SNMP TRAP-TYPE notifications for Cabletron/Enterasys MMAC chassis-based network devices, spanning repeater/port link and segmentation state, board insertion/removal, redundancy switchover, environmental (temperature, voltage, fan) faults, and Token Ring (802.5) station/beacon/security events. It defines no OBJECT-TYPE tables of its own; instead each TRAP-TYPE (e.g., portLinkUp/portLinkDown, boardInsertion/boardRemoval, envTempHot/envTempNormal, beaconState, rptrErrorThresholdExceeded) carries VARIABLES imported from many companion Cabletron MIBs (REPEATER-REV4-MIB, CTRON-POWER-SUPPLY-MIB, CTRON-ENVIRONMENT-MIB, DOT5-LOG-MIB, and others). Monitoring these traps is useful for real-time fault detection on Cabletron/Enterasys MMAC repeaters and Token Ring modules, such as segmented ports, chassis power/thermal faults, or Token Ring beaconing conditions, without polling every underlying counter. It depends on and complements the many Cabletron enterprise MIBs it imports variables from, and administrators can download the CABLETRON-TRAPS file to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CABLETRON-TRAPS. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cabletron/Enterasys MMAC chassis hubs and Token Ring concentrators
Monitoring Examples
A management station subscribes to portLinkDown and boardRemoval traps carrying rptrPortMgmtPortId and chSlotID to detect when a MIM module or port is pulled from an MMAC chassis; repeated envTempHot traps for the same chSlotID without a following envTempNormal would indicate a persistent chassis cooling problem.
What Can Be Monitored
- port link up/down and segmentation traps
- board/module insertion and removal traps
- environmental (temperature/voltage/fan) fault traps
- traffic/error/collision/broadcast threshold traps
- Token Ring beacon and security violation traps

|---|---|---|---|---|
| NTF ctdlswTConnUp | 1.3.6.1.4.1.52.0.1 | This trap is sent each time a transport connection becomes enabled on this DLSw. | ||
| NTF ctdlswTConnDown | 1.3.6.1.4.1.52.0.2 | This trap is sent each time a transport connection becomes disabled on this DLSw. | ||
| NTF portSegmenting | 1.3.6.1.4.1.52.0.257 | When a port goes from operational to segmented, a trap will be generated. For these purposes, the port state will be sampled every XXX seconds, thus it will be statistically possible to miss oscillating circuits. | ||
| NTF portUnsegementing | 1.3.6.1.4.1.52.0.258 | When it is detected that a previously segmented port has gone operational, a trap will be generated. This is also sampled, thus a trap may not be generated for each transition. | ||
| NTF portLinkUp | 1.3.6.1.4.1.52.0.259 | This trap will be generated when it is determined that a MAU has been attached to the MMAC. This is only appropriate for MIMs that support the concept of a link state. | ||
| NTF portLinkDown | 1.3.6.1.4.1.52.0.260 | This trap will be generated when a previously attached MAU is removed or powered down. Again, this is only appropriate for MIM's that support link state. | ||
| NTF srcaddrNew | 1.3.6.1.4.1.52.0.261 | This trap will be generated when the MMAC detects the existence of a new source address on one of it's ports. | ||
| NTF srcaddrTimeout | 1.3.6.1.4.1.52.0.262 | This trap will indicate that the MMAC has not detected a packet generated by this source address within a certain timeout. | ||
| NTF boardRemoval | 1.3.6.1.4.1.52.0.263 | This trap will be generated when the MMAC detects that a MIM has been removed. | ||
| NTF boardInsertion | 1.3.6.1.4.1.52.0.264 | This trap will generated when the MMAC determines that a new board has been inserted. | ||
| NTF redundActivePortInCircuitFailed | 1.3.6.1.4.1.52.0.265 | This trap will be generated when the active port in a redundant circuit has failed polling. This will indicate the activation of redundancy. | ||
| NTF redundPortActivated | 1.3.6.1.4.1.52.0.266 | This trap indicates that a new port has been activated in a redundant circuit. This does NOT indicate that this port is usable, but is being tested. If the port fails, a failure trap (above) will be generated. | ||
| NTF redundPortTestFailed | 1.3.6.1.4.1.52.0.267 | This trap will be generated when the MMAC executes it's periodic redundancy diagnostics and finds one of the ports in a redundant circuit has failed. This message will not indicate that redundancy has been activated, just that the port has failed and should be fixed before it is needed. | ||
| NTF boardTrafficThresholdExceeded | 1.3.6.1.4.1.52.0.271 | This trap will be generated when the traffic (good packets per time interval) has been exceeded for a particular MIM. | ||
| NTF boardErrorThresholdExceeded | 1.3.6.1.4.1.52.0.272 | This trap will be generated when packets of the selected error type exceeds a threshold percentage of the good packets for a particular interval for a particular MIM. | ||

| NTF portTrafficThresholdExceeded | 1.3.6.1.4.1.52.0.274 | This trap will be generated when the traffic (good packets per time interval) has been exceeded for a particular port. | ||
| NTF portErrorThresholdExceeded | 1.3.6.1.4.1.52.0.275 | This trap will be generated when packets of the selected error type exceeds a threshold percentage of the good packets for a particular interval for a particular port. | ||
