What Is CTRON-CHASSIS-MIB?
CTRON-CHASSIS-MIB is a Cabletron (Enterasys) enterprise MIB that models the physical hardware inventory of a Cabletron modular chassis, including slot assignments, installed module types, and overall chassis health. It exposes hardware-inventory data — what type of module occupies each slot — plus chassis-level or per-slot health/status indicators. Its central purpose is monitoring hardware status: it is the primary way to detect that a module has been removed, has failed, or is reporting a fault condition within the chassis, similar in spirit to an entPhysicalTable-style inventory but with Cabletron-specific chassis semantics. It is commonly used together with the standard ENTITY-MIB and with Cabletron's own environment MIB (temperature/power/fan) to build a complete physical-health picture of the device. It is deployed on modular, slot-based Cabletron/Enterasys switches and hubs that support hot-swappable line modules, and administrators maintaining older Cabletron gear can still find a CTRON-CHASSIS-MIB download to load into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CTRON-CHASSIS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cabletron/Enterasys modular chassis switch
Monitoring Examples
No sample object names were supplied for this module in the source data, so a table-level walkthrough can't be grounded in real identifiers. In practice, an administrator would poll per-slot module-type and module-status objects to detect an unexpected "empty" or "fault" state where a module was previously reporting "ok," signaling a card failure or removal. Because specific object names weren't available, this remains a conceptual example rather than an object-referenced one.
What Can Be Monitored
- installed module type per slot
- slot occupancy
- chassis/module health status
