Category: SNMP Framework, Vendor: Cabletron/Enterasys

Description: Provides common Cabletron/Enterasys MIB objects shared across multiple product families and platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CTRON-COMMON-MIB?

CTRON-COMMON-MIB is a vendor MIB providing shared/common object definitions and conventions used across Cabletron Systems' (later Enterasys Networks) multiple product families and switch/router platforms. It is a foundational, configuration-category MIB whose main purpose is to establish common textual conventions, object identifiers, or shared structures rather than device-specific operational data, so its monitoring content is limited on its own. Its indirect role in hardware/software health monitoring comes from underpinning product-specific Cabletron MIBs (which reference its common definitions) that in turn expose chassis, module, and interface status data. It is explicitly a dependency for other Cabletron/Enterasys product MIBs, which import definitions from it, rather than depending outward on external standards. It is typically deployed as a supporting MIB loaded alongside product-specific Cabletron/Enterasys MIBs across their switch and router lines, with the CTRON-COMMON-MIB MIB itself providing the shared definitions those product MIBs build upon.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CTRON-COMMON-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cabletron/Enterasys network switches and routers (shared/common definitions)

Monitoring Examples

No sample object names were provided for this module, so specific table or object names cannot be cited with confidence. In general, this MIB is not polled directly for monitoring data; instead, product-specific Cabletron/Enterasys MIBs import its common definitions, and an admin's monitoring scenario would actually target those dependent MIBs' chassis or interface objects rather than CTRON-COMMON-MIB itself.
