Category: Vendor: Cabletron/Enterasys

Description: Manages Cabletron SFPS network topology database, link states, and virtual network map distribution.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CTRON-SFPS-TOPOLOGY-MIB?

CTRON-SFPS-TOPOLOGY-MIB is a Cabletron Systems enterprise MIB managing the network topology database on SecureFast Packet Switch (SFPS) devices, tracking link states and distribution of the virtual network map across a policy/topology service center. It exposes topology entry objects (name, metric, hash leaf) with administrative/operational status, status timestamps, and request/response counters, plus a historical topology server table for tracking past topology server activity. For monitoring it lets an operator verify that topology entries are operationally active, detect stalled or failing topology distribution via the request/response counters, and review historical topology server records when diagnosing intermittent connectivity problems, functioning as software/control-plane health monitoring rather than physical sensor data. It shares the common version/logging infrastructure from CTRON-SFPS-COMMON-MIB and works alongside CTRON-SFPS-POLICY-MIB, since policies are applied against the topology this module tracks. It is deployed on Cabletron SecureFast Packet Switches forming a switched virtual network fabric. Engineers can download the CTRON-SFPS-TOPOLOGY-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CTRON-SFPS-TOPOLOGY-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cabletron SecureFast Packet Switch (SFPS)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll sfpsServiceCenterTopologyTable/sfpsServiceCenterTopologyEntry, checking sfpsServiceCenterTopologyOperStatus against sfpsServiceCenterTopologyAdminStatus for an entry identified by sfpsServiceCenterTopologyName, to catch a topology record that has been administratively created but never came operationally up. The sfpsServiceCenterTopologyRequests/Responses counters would reveal a topology server failing to answer distribution requests, and sfpsServiceCenterTopologyStatusTime would show how long the current state has persisted. The sfpsHistoryTopologyServerTable would be reviewed to correlate a current fault with a past topology server outage or role change.

What Can Be Monitored

  • topology entry admin vs. operational status
  • topology status change timestamp
  • topology request/response counters
  • historical topology server records
