What Is CTRON-OIDS?

CTRON-OIDS is a Cabletron Systems (later Enterasys Networks) MIB that defines the vendor's top-level OID tree structure and enterprise object identifier assignments, including branches for naming (namingTree), SNMPv2 conformance (v2conformance), trap definitions (trapDefinitions), and chassis type identifiers (chassisType). It contains no runtime monitorable data objects itself—it is purely a namespace/registration MIB establishing the numbering scheme other Cabletron/Enterasys product MIBs build upon. As such it exposes no direct hardware or software status (no uptime, temperature, or counters); actual device health data lives in the many product-specific Cabletron/Enterasys MIBs that reference OIDs assigned here, including the chassisType branch used to identify specific hardware models. It underpins essentially the entire Cabletron/Enterasys MIB family, making it a foundational dependency rather than an independent module. It would be deployed only as supporting infrastructure wherever legacy Cabletron or Enterasys networking hardware (switches, hubs, chassis-based systems) is managed via SNMP. Consulting the CTRON-OIDS OID list is useful mainly for cross-referencing which chassisType or trap identifier a particular Cabletron/Enterasys product MIB is using, rather than for direct polling.

Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples

With no data-bearing sample_objects, this module offers no direct monitoring scenario; chassisType values, for instance, are used by other Cabletron/Enterasys MIBs to identify which specific chassis hardware model is installed, but the actual status polling happens in those product MIBs. trapDefinitions similarly provides the namespace under which real fault/event traps are registered by sibling modules, rather than emitting notifications itself.
