Category: Device Management, Hardware and Environment, Vendor: Cabletron/Enterasys

Description: Manages Cabletron/Enterasys container and slot configuration for modular chassis physical inventory.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CT-CONTAINER-MIB?

CT-CONTAINER-MIB is a legacy Cabletron Systems proprietary MIB (built on CTRON-MIB-NAMES) identifying device/container type and reporting logical/physical entity inventory — a precursor to the later standard ENTITY-MIB. Its objects cover a device/container-type identifier (allocated under the SMI enterprises subtree, so a management station can determine 'what kind of box' is being managed), physical/logical entry and change counts, serial number, and containing-device detail, alongside a logical-entry table (ID, type, name, version, RO/RW/SU community strings, admin/operational status) and a physical-entry table (ID, count, class). As a hardware-inventory/status MIB it lets an administrator identify exactly which Cabletron chassis/module type is installed and its community-string configuration. It is deployed on legacy Cabletron Systems networking equipment. Engineers can download the CT-CONTAINER-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CT-CONTAINER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Legacy Cabletron Systems networking equipment

Monitoring Examples

An administrator checks contLogicalEntryROCommStr and contTypeDevice to confirm the correct read-only community string and device type before polling a legacy Cabletron chassis.

What Can Be Monitored

  • device/container type and logical entity inventory
