Category: Telephony and VoIP

Description: Defines managed objects for signaling management on PacketCable/IPCablecom MTAs, including codec configuration, echo cancellation, and silence suppression.

IPNetwork Monitor uses several OIDs from this MIB in network discovery and polling the applicable devices. Start monitoring PKTC-IETF-SIG-MIB with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor.

What Is PKTC-IETF-SIG-MIB?

PKTC-IETF-SIG-MIB is the standard IETF IPCDN Working Group MIB (RFC 4351 successor track) providing common PacketCable/IPCablecom Network Call Signaling (NCS) management objects. Its codec table, keyed by codec-combination index, records codec type and max instances, alongside echo-cancellation/silence-suppression enable, caller-ID signaling protocol, per-ring-cadence (R0-R7, ringback, splash) timing, default call-signaling/media-stream DSCP marking, and a capability table (index, type, version). As a configuration MIB it lets an administrator confirm which codecs and DSCP markings a PacketCable-compliant embedded MTA/CMTS is configured to use for voice signaling. It is deployed on PacketCable/IPCablecom-compliant cable-telephony equipment. Engineers implementing or auditing this functionality typically reference the PKTC-IETF-SIG-MIB RFC/standard documentation for the authoritative specification.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PKTC-IETF-SIG-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • PacketCable/IPCablecom-compliant cable-telephony equipment

Monitoring Examples

An administrator checks pktcSigDefCallSigDscp and pktcSigDevCodecTable to confirm QoS marking and codec configuration on a PacketCable-compliant cable-telephony device.

What Can Be Monitored

  • signaling codec and QoS (DSCP) configuration
