Description: Juniper Networks MIB providing general system information including hardware inventory, uptime, and version data for Juniper E-series.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Juniper-System-MIB?

Juniper-System-MIB is a Juniper Networks enterprise MIB providing general system-level management for JUNOSe-based E-series devices (both first-generation ERX and second-generation ES2 hardware), complementing the standard ENTITY-MIB's physical inventory table with a more operator-friendly system view. It exposes hardware/software inventory and state, software version and build information, memory utilization and capacity, and boot/configuration control settings along with system-level trap notifications. It is squarely a hardware-and-software health MIB: juniSystemSwVersion and juniSystemSwBuildDate track running software version, juniSystemMemUtilPct/MemCapacity/MemKBytesCapacity monitor memory load against configurable high and abated utilization thresholds for hysteresis-based alerting, and the juniSystemBoot* family of objects governs and reports on boot/config-revert behavior after failures. It explicitly complements the standard ENTITY-MIB (entPhysicalTable) rather than replacing it. Juniper-System-MIB SNMP monitoring is used for overall system health, inventory, and software/configuration tracking on Juniper E-series edge/service-provider routers.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Juniper-System-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Juniper E-series router (ERX/ES2, JUNOSe)

Monitoring Examples

An NMS can poll juniSystemMemUtilPct against juniSystemHighMemUtilThreshold to detect memory pressure, then watch for juniSystemTrap to fire and later clear once utilization drops below juniSystemAbatedMemUtilThreshold, giving hysteresis-based memory alerting. Checking juniSystemSwVersion and juniSystemSwBuildDate confirms the running software build after an upgrade, while juniSystemBootAutoRevertControl and juniSystemBootAutoRevertCountTolerance reveal whether the router is configured to roll back to a backup configuration after repeated boot failures.

What Can Be Monitored

  • memory utilization percentage and capacity
  • memory utilization thresholds (high/abated)
  • running software version and build date
  • boot/backup configuration control settings
  • auto-revert behavior on boot failure
  • system traps/notifications
