Category: Textual Conventions and Registries, Vendor: Juniper

Description: Defines the OID registration subtree and platform identifiers for Juniper Networks ES2-series router platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Juniper-ES2-Registry?

Juniper-ES2-Registry is a Juniper Networks OID registration MIB that defines the AutonomousType (OID) values used to identify physical entity types (entPhysicalVendorType) for Juniper's second-generation E-series router platforms. It is purely a naming/registry module rather than a data-bearing MIB; it enumerates identifiers for hardware modules and components so that other MIBs, particularly the standard ENTITY-MIB, can report which specific card, chassis, or module type is installed. Because entPhysicalVendorType values are the mechanism by which management systems recognize installed hardware, this registry indirectly supports hardware inventory monitoring, identifying exactly which line card, PIC, or chassis component is present, even though it exposes no live counters itself. It is explicitly dependent on the IETF ENTITY-MIB, whose entPhysicalVendorType object is populated using OIDs defined here. It is used internally by Juniper E-series edge routers whenever a network management station queries entPhysicalVendorType via ENTITY-MIB, drawing on the Juniper-ES2-Registry OID tree to identify the specific hardware module.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Juniper-ES2-Registry. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Juniper Networks E-series (ES2/ERX) edge router

Monitoring Examples

This module defines only OID identifiers (juniES2EntPhysicalType) rather than runtime data, so there is no direct polling scenario; a management station polling the standard ENTITY-MIB's entPhysicalVendorType on a Juniper E-series router would receive one of these OIDs, letting it translate the numeric value into a specific hardware module or chassis type for inventory reporting.
