What Is CISCO-SCSI-FLOW-MIB?

CISCO-SCSI-FLOW-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB for Cisco MDS storage-area-network (SAN) switch platforms, used to monitor SCSI I/O flow statistics between initiators and targets across Fibre Channel fabrics. It exposes a flow table keyed by a flow ID, with per-flow initiator/target WWNs, VSAN membership, LUN scope, and buffer/statistics-enablement settings. Its monitoring value lies in performance and software-state visibility: tracking whether flow statistics collection is enabled, how many buffers are allocated, and whether write-acceleration is applied, all of which affect SAN I/O performance and diagnostics. It relies on Cisco's VSAN and WWN addressing conventions native to MDS Fibre Channel switches and complements other Cisco storage MIBs. It is deployed specifically on Cisco MDS multilayer SAN directors and switches. Engineers can download the CISCO-SCSI-FLOW-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would first read ciscoScsiFlowNextIndexAvail to obtain a free index, then create and poll a ciscoScsiFlowTable/ciscoScsiFlowEntry row via ciscoScsiFlowId to inspect ciscoScsiFlowIntrWwn, ciscoScsiFlowTargetWwn, and ciscoScsiFlowIntrVsan/ciscoScsiFlowTargetVsan for a specific initiator-target pair. Checking ciscoScsiFlowStatsEnabled and ciscoScsiFlowBufCount reveals whether flow-level statistics and write acceleration buffering are active for that flow, and ciscoScsiFlowWriteAcc shows if write acceleration is enabled, which is useful when diagnosing degraded SAN throughput on a specific initiator-target-VSAN combination.
