What Is CISCO-ST-TC?

CISCO-ST-TC is a Cisco textual-conventions MIB that defines shared data types used across Cisco's family of Storage Area Network (SAN) technology-specific MIB modules, such as those for Fibre Channel switches and SAN fabric management. As a TC-only module it defines no managed objects itself, so it exposes no direct categories of monitorable data; its role is purely to standardize enumerations and syntax (e.g. port types, fabric states) reused by the actual SAN MIBs. It therefore has no direct role in monitoring hardware or software status, but it underpins the conventions that Cisco's MDS-series SAN switch MIBs rely on to report fabric, port, and zone status consistently. It has an inherent dependency relationship with the broader Cisco SAN MIB family (e.g. CISCO-FC-* MIBs) that import its conventions. It is used in any management environment polling Cisco MDS-series Fibre Channel/SAN switches, and a CISCO-ST-TC download is typically required before compiling those MDS-series SAN MIBs since they import its shared type definitions.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-ST-TC. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco MDS 9718 Multilayer Director (with Supervisor-4 module) — Cisco's current flagship modular FC SAN director
  • Cisco MDS 9132T — current fixed-configuration 32G FC fabric switch

Monitoring Examples

This module defines only textual conventions for SAN technology concepts and contains no scalars or tables of its own, so there is no monitoring scenario to describe directly. Its conventions are consumed by other Cisco SAN MIBs to type objects such as port operational state or fabric membership on MDS-series switches.
