Category: Cisco Devices, Device Management, SNMP Framework

Description: Declares SNMP agent capabilities for the Cisco IOS image management MIB on supported platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-IMAGE-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-IMAGE-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module declaring which objects of CISCO-IMAGE-MIB (Cisco IOS software image management) are supported on a given device's SNMP agent. It belongs to the software/image-management conformance area and, consistent with other capability modules, defines no runtime tables or counters of its own. It therefore contributes nothing directly to hardware/software status monitoring; it exists purely so management platforms can determine in advance which image-related objects are queryable on a given hardware/software combination. It is entirely dependent on the base CISCO-IMAGE-MIB it describes. It is typically consulted during NMS onboarding for Cisco devices where software image inventory tracking is required. Engineers can download the CISCO-IMAGE-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-IMAGE-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco routers and switches running IOS

Monitoring Examples

This is a conformance/AGENT-CAPABILITIES module with no runtime data objects; sample_objects is empty. It only declares feature support for CISCO-IMAGE-MIB rather than exposing any monitorable data.
