What Is TIMETRA-LAG-MIB?

TIMETRA-LAG-MIB is Alcatel-Lucent's (now Nokia's) proprietary SNMP module for managing IEEE 802.3ad Link Aggregation Groups (LAGs) on SR-series service routers running SR OS. It exposes configuration and status data for LAG bundles, including member port thresholds, LACP administrative settings, dynamic cost calculation, and row-status-driven creation/deletion of LAG entries. It is central to monitoring the health of link aggregation on the device: administrators can track whether LACP is enabled and functioning, whether the count of active member ports has fallen below a configured threshold, and whether LAG descriptions/administrative states match intended configuration -- all reflecting the hardware/link status of the bonded interfaces. The MIB builds on the IEEE 802.3ad LACP standard and integrates with Alcatel-Lucent's broader TIMETRA enterprise MIB tree and IF-MIB interface indexing. It is deployed in service-provider and enterprise networks using Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent 7750 SR, 7450 ESS, and related SR OS platforms to provide resilient, load-balanced trunk links. Engineers can download the TIMETRA-LAG-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll tLagConfigTable/tLagConfigEntry (indexed by tLagIndex) to check tLagEnableLACP and tLagLACPMode against tLagPortThreshold -- if the number of up member ports drops below the configured threshold, tLagPortThresholdAction determines whether the LAG is brought down, revealing a physical link or optics failure on one or more bundled ports. tLagDynamicCosting and tLagLACPAdminKeyAutogen confirm expected cost/LACP negotiation behavior, and tLagRowStatus confirms the LAG entry is administratively active.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using tLagPortThresholdFalling OID:

Select a Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent 7750 SR, 7450 ESS SR OS platform (LACP/link-aggregation member-port status) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type tLagPortThresholdFalling into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports counts the number of linkDown or dynamicCost events for the Link Aggregation Group caused by the number of physical ports being less than or equal to tLagPortThreshold value. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
