What Is CISCOSB-Tuning?

CISCOSB-Tuning is a Cisco Small Business private enterprise MIB that provides performance tuning parameters for memory, buffers, and system resource limits on Cisco Small Business managed switches. It exposes objects for adjusting task/logging priority levels, debug levels, diagnostic request logging, and resource-sizing tunables such as maximum forwarding-table (bridge) entries. It directly supports software status monitoring: rsDiagnosticsTable captures diagnostic request codes, locations, and text useful for tracking internal error/event conditions, while eventMessageTable logs system events, both helping an administrator detect abnormal internal conditions or resource exhaustion on the switch. It is a Cisco proprietary enterprise MIB specific to the Small Business switch platform and does not appear to depend on external standards MIBs beyond Cisco's own private enterprise tree. It is deployed on Cisco Small Business managed switches where administrators need to tune resource limits or investigate internal diagnostic/event logs. Engineers can download the CISCOSB-Tuning file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

An administrator would poll rsDiagnosticsTable/rsDiagnosticsEntry (indexed by rsDiagnosticsRequestId) to review rsDiagnosticsCode, rsDiagnosticsLocation, and rsDiagnosticsText for recent internal diagnostic events, and check eventMessageTable/eventMessageEntry for logged system events. A growing number of diagnostic entries with error codes concentrated at one rsDiagnosticsLocation would point to a specific subsystem repeatedly failing, while rsMaxBridgeForwardingEntriesTuning set near its practical limit could explain MAC table exhaustion symptoms.
