Description: Cisco IS-IS capabilities MIB defining SNMP agent capability statements for the IS-IS routing protocol MIB implementation.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ISIS-CAPABILTY-MIB?
ISIS-CAPABILTY-MIB is a Cisco AGENT-CAPABILITIES module that documents which specific objects and features of the standard IS-IS routing protocol MIB Cisco's SNMP agent implements, rather than defining any new managed objects itself. Agent capability modules exist purely to describe implementation conformance for network management systems, not to expose runtime data. As such it has no bearing on hardware or software runtime status monitoring; it is a conformance/documentation artifact used by NMS tools to know what to expect when polling the real IS-IS MIB on Cisco gear. Its entire purpose is to describe support for the standard ISIS-MIB (the IETF/IS-IS routing MIB), making it entirely dependent on that base MIB. Deployment context is Cisco routers running IS-IS, where NMS software consults this capabilities statement during MIB compliance checks rather than for live polling. Engineers can download the ISIS-CAPABILTY-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ISIS-CAPABILTY-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco routers running IS-IS
Monitoring Examples
This is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module with no runtime data objects, so there is no monitoring scenario to describe honestly; it only documents which groups and objects of the standard IS-IS MIB Cisco's agent supports. A network management tool would consult it during device onboarding to determine which IS-IS MIB tables and objects are safe to poll on that Cisco platform. It should not be polled directly for status information.
