What Is CISCO-VISM-DSX0-MIB?

This Cisco private MIB manages DS0 (individual voice timeslot) configuration, signaling, and status on VISM (Voice Interworking Service Module) cards, which carry voice traffic over ATM within Cisco MGX 8250/8850 and related MGX chassis. It exposes per-timeslot signaling configuration (robbed-bit signaling, idle/seized/received codes, CAS variant and cadence) as well as bundle/interface-type mapping and card-level statistics. Its monitoring emphasis is on hardware and software status together: card statistics reflect the health of the VISM hardware module itself, while the per-DS0 signaling codes reveal whether individual voice channels are behaving correctly, so an admin can catch a failing timeslot or a misconfigured CAS variant before it disrupts calls. It builds on the conventions of the standard DS1/T1-E1 interface MIBs, since each DS0 timeslot is a subdivision of a DS1 line. It is deployed within Cisco MGX 8250/8850 voice gateway chassis carrying voice-over-ATM trunks in carrier and enterprise voice networks. Engineers can download the CISCO-VISM-DSX0-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll dsx0VismCnfTable/dsx0VismCnfEntry, indexed by ds0IfIndex, to check ds0RobbedBitSignalling, ds0IdleCode, ds0SeizedCode, and ds0ReceivedCode for a given timeslot, along with ds0CasVariantName and ds0CasCadenceOnTime for its channel-associated signaling setup. ds0BundleMapped and ds0IfType show whether and how that timeslot is bundled into a voice channel, while vismDs0CardStats gives card-level statistics for the VISM module as a whole. A timeslot reporting an unexpected received code alongside degraded vismDs0CardStats would reveal a failing voice trunk or a misconfigured CAS variant on that card.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using vismActiveDs0Count OID:

Select a Cisco VISM (Voice Interworking Service Module) card, MGX platform (legacy) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type vismActiveDs0Count into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. This is the number of active ds0s on the card. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an Integer32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the count changes from its expected baseline, since that would indicate the underlying set of items changed unexpectedly. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
