ds0Companding

Module: CISCO-VISM-DSX0-MIB

OID (symbolic): CISCO-VISM-DSX0-MIB::ds0Companding

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.351.110.4.7.1.1.38

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: This object indicates whether input from / output to the TDM side of DS0 is u-law or a-law stream. The setting of this object will not take effect unless the corresponding DSP channel is closed and re-opened.

What is ds0Companding?

This read-write INTEGER specifies whether the TDM-side input/output of this DS0 uses u-law or a-law companding, and a change only takes effect after the corresponding DSP channel is closed and reopened. Matching this setting to the connected equipment's companding standard (u-law is typical for T1/North America, a-law for E1/international) is essential for correct voice quality, since a mismatch causes audible distortion. For example, an admin migrating a channel from a T1-based u-law setup to an E1 a-law network would update ds0Companding and then recycle the DSP channel for the change to apply.
