What Is BLADETYPE6-NETWORK-MIB?

BLADETYPE6-NETWORK-MIB is an HP MIB for the ProLiant GbE2c 10G BladeSystem Type 6 interconnect switch, covering network interface configuration and statistics for the blade enclosure's embedded switch module. It exposes hardware inventory objects (hwPartNumber, hwRevision, hwSerialNumber), per-port operational data via agPortOperTable/agPortOperTableEntry (keyed by portOperIdx, giving portOperState and RMON statistics via portOperRmon), and 802.1x port authentication status via portOperDot1xTable. This module supports monitoring both hardware identity (part number, revision, serial number) and per-port network status — operational state and RMON traffic statistics — plus port-level 802.1x authentication state, useful for detecting a down port, abnormal port traffic, or an authentication failure on the interconnect switch. It builds on RMON conventions for port statistics and IEEE 802.1x for port authentication, alongside HP's own agent framework objects. It's deployed inside HP BladeSystem enclosures on the embedded ProLiant GbE2c 10G Interconnect Switch module connecting blade servers to the external network. Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll agPortOperTable/agPortOperTableEntry, keyed by portOperIdx, to check portOperState for each switch port and portOperRmon for traffic statistics, catching a port that's unexpectedly down or showing abnormal traffic levels. The portOperDot1xTable/portOperDot1xTableEntry entries (via portOperDot1xIndx and portOperDot1xReset) let an operator monitor and reset 802.1x authentication state on a given port if a device fails to authenticate. Checking hwPartNumber, hwRevision, and hwSerialNumber confirms the specific interconnect switch module's hardware identity, useful for inventory and support case correlation.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using pktStatsAllocs OID:

Select an HP BladeSystem Type 6 / ProLiant GbE2c 10G Interconnect Switch as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type pktStatsAllocs into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. It reports the total number of packet allocations from the packet buffer pool by the TCP/IP protocol stack. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
