Description: Manages interface configuration and status for DCP optical communications platforms.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is DCP-INTERFACE-MIB?
This is the enterprise-specific DCP INTERFACE MIB from Smartoptics, part of the vendor's DCP optical transport product line used in optical communications networking. It exposes per-interface configuration and status data organized in a table -- dcpInterfaceTable/dcpInterfaceEntry -- covering fields such as name, description, format, and wavelength assignment for each optical port. Critically for monitoring, it provides hardware health telemetry including received and transmitted optical power levels (dcpInterfaceRxPower/dcpInterfaceTxPower), operational status (dcpInterfaceStatus), and active alarm conditions (dcpInterfaceAlarm), letting operators detect degrading or failed optical links before they cause a full outage. It is a self-contained enterprise MIB but is typically deployed alongside standard IF-MIB and entity MIBs for full device/interface inventory context. It is used in service-provider and enterprise optical transport deployments to continuously monitor the physical-layer health of DWDM/optical line interfaces on Smartoptics DCP platforms. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the DCP-INTERFACE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DCP-INTERFACE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Smartoptics DCP optical transport platform
Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll dcpInterfaceTable to walk all interfaces on a Smartoptics DCP unit, reading dcpInterfaceRxPower and dcpInterfaceTxPower for each dcpInterfaceEntry to trend optical signal levels over time. A sudden drop in dcpInterfaceRxPower combined with a non-zero dcpInterfaceAlarm value on a given dcpInterfaceIndex would indicate fiber degradation, a dirty connector, or a failing transceiver on that channel. dcpInterfaceWavelength and dcpInterfaceChannelId help correlate the affected interface to a specific DWDM channel for troubleshooting.
What Can Be Monitored
- optical receive power (Rx)
- optical transmit power (Tx)
- interface operational status
- active interface alarms
- wavelength/channel assignment
- interface name and description
