Category: Legacy and Historical

Description: Manages legacy SynOptics Ethernet hub port configuration, statistics, and fault management.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SYNOPTICS-ETHERNET-MIB?

SYNOPTICS-ETHERNET-MIB is a SynOptics Communications, Inc. enterprise MIB (Series 3000 Ethernet NMM agent) for legacy SynOptics Ethernet hub/concentrator hardware, providing hub-wide, per-board, and per-port status, statistics, and security configuration. At the concentrator level it exposes retiming status and receive-frame/octet/multicast/broadcast/collision counters along with a hierarchical set of MAC receive-error counters (too-long, runt, fragment, alignment, FCS, late collision), plus a security model (s3EnetConcSecureStatus/s3EnetConcAuthAction/s3EnetConcSecurityLock) that can enforce allowed-node checking and LattisSecure port security at the concentrator, board, or port level. Board-level tables mirror these counters per plug-in module and add authorization status/action and an up-since timestamp, while dedicated local-bridge, remote-bridge, and router board/port tables expose bridge/router-specific status such as boot/standby state, bridge interface type (Ethernet-to-Ethernet or Ethernet-to-Token-Ring), and serial-link handshake status (ready-to-send, clear-to-send, carrier-detect) for remote bridges. The port table itself reports link, partition (including auto- and LattisSecure-triggered partition), and jabber status alongside the same per-port error-counter hierarchy and authorization settings. This makes the MIB a comprehensive, if dated, source for diagnosing hub segment health, security violations, and bridge/router module status on the target hardware. It is deployed on SynOptics Series 3000 Ethernet concentrators/hubs, and administrators can download the SYNOPTICS-ETHERNET-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SYNOPTICS-ETHERNET-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • SynOptics Series 3000 Ethernet concentrators/hubs (NMM/NMM+ agents)

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls s3EnetPortTable's s3EnetPortPartStatus for a port that has gone silent and, upon finding autoPartition(3) or latSecPartition(5), checks s3EnetPortAuthStatus and the concentrator-level s3EnetConcAuthAction to determine whether the port was auto-partitioned by the repeater's collision-based auto-partition logic or shut down by a LattisSecure authorized-nodes violation; the distinction determines whether the fix is a cabling/NIC issue or a security-policy exception.

What Can Be Monitored

  • concentrator/board/port receive-frame and MAC error counters
  • port partition status and cause (auto/timed/security)
  • authorized-nodes security status and action
  • local/remote bridge board and port status
  • board up-since timestamp and channel assignment
