Category: Legacy and Historical, Storage

Description: Defines Symbios DMI 2.0 component ID 2.2 instrumentation objects for legacy storage controller management.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SYMBIOSDMI20MIFDEFINITIONID22-MIB?

SYMBIOSDMI20MIFDEFINITIONID22-MIB is a legacy module translating a Symbios (later LSI Logic) DMI 2.0 MIF (Management Information Format) component definition into SNMP form, used for instrumenting SCSI storage controller hardware inventory. It exposes component/subcomponent identity data such as manufacturer, product name, version, and serial number, plus installation and verification status, and subcomponent software index/version. Its monitoring role is mostly hardware/software inventory and installation-status rather than live performance counters: confirming a SCSI controller component's identity, that it installed successfully (a1Installation), and passed verification (a1Verify), and which software/firmware version its subcomponents report. It is directly derived from the DMI 2.0 MIF standard and tied to SCSI conventions (scsi, cosprings namespace) from that era. It is deployed on legacy servers or storage systems using Symbios/LSI SCSI controllers managed via DMI-to-SNMP bridging. Engineers can download the SYMBIOSDMI20MIFDEFINITIONID22-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SYMBIOSDMI20MIFDEFINITIONID22-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Symbios/LSI legacy SCSI storage controller

Monitoring Examples

An admin checks a1Manufacturer, a1Product, and a1Version to confirm the identity and firmware version of an installed SCSI controller component, and reviews a1Installation and a1Verify to confirm the component was installed and passed its self-verification. A failed a1Verify status alongside an unexpected a1SerialNumber would indicate a controller was swapped or is misconfigured following a hardware replacement.

What Can Be Monitored

  • component manufacturer/product/version
  • component serial number
  • installation status
  • verification status
  • subcomponent software version
