Description: Provides Siemens Nixdorf server remote control for power operations, reset, and out-of-band management.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is SNI-SERVER-CONTROL-MIB?
SNI-SERVER-CONTROL-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB originating from Siemens Nixdorf (later carried forward by Siemens, Fujitsu Siemens Computers, and Fujitsu Technology Solutions as the ServerView server-management platform) that provides remote hardware monitoring and control for server systems, including power operations and out-of-band management. It exposes environment (temperatureSensorsTable and fansTable with per-sensor/fan status, current readings, and critical-reaction configuration), errorHandling (eventLogTable/errorLogTable for encoded system message history, plus hardware/software/boot watchdog status and configuration), systemBoard (cpuTable with per-CPU type/frequency/status/cache sizes, memoryModulesTable with per-DIMM status and error counters, physical/base/extended memory size), and additional groups for power supplies, UPS, diagnostics, and BIOS setup reachable via the sniServerControl OID subtree. This is fundamentally a hardware-sensor and reliability-monitoring MIB, exposing real device health (temperature, fan speed, CPU/memory faults) alongside configurable failure-reaction policies (shutdown-and-poweroff vs. continue) for critical conditions. It has no dependency beyond standard RFC-1212/RFC-1155-SMI imports and is deployed on Siemens Nixdorf/Fujitsu server hardware running the ServerView agent. Data-center operators load the SNI-SERVER-CONTROL-MIB download into their monitoring platform to track server hardware health and out-of-band power/reset operations.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SNI-SERVER-CONTROL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Siemens Nixdorf / Fujitsu Siemens / Fujitsu Technology Solutions server hardware (ServerView-managed)
Monitoring Examples
An operator polls temperatureSensorsTable and fansTable to check tempSensorStatus and fanStatus for each sensor/fan, alongside cpuTable's cpuStatus and memoryModulesTable's memModuleStatus; a fan reporting prefailure-predicted(5) or a CPU reporting fail(6) would indicate imminent or actual hardware failure requiring a service action, especially if tempCriticalReaction is configured for automatic shutdown-and-poweroff.
What Can Be Monitored
- temperature sensor status and current readings
- fan status, current/nominal speed, and fail reaction policy
- CPU status, frequency, and cache sizes
- memory module status and correctable/uncorrectable error counters
- event and error log message history
- hardware/software/boot watchdog status and configuration
