Category: Server and Host Management, Siemens Nixdorf Server Management

Description: Manages Siemens Nixdorf server system bus configuration, slot inventory, and adapter card status.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SNI-BUS-MIB?

SNI-BUS-MIB is a Siemens Nixdorf enterprise MIB for managing the internal system bus of Siemens Nixdorf server hardware, covering EISA, ISA, and PCI bus slots and the adapter cards installed in them. It exposes hardware inventory data such as slot counts per bus type, device slot numbers, function numbers, and device type/name for each installed card. Its principal use is hardware status monitoring: it lets an administrator enumerate which physical adapter cards (network, storage, or other function cards) are present in which slots, so a missing or changed sniDeviceType at a known slot number reveals a card failure, removal, or unexpected hardware change. This MIB is standalone hardware-inventory data with no apparent dependency on other MIBs beyond standard SNMP conventions. It would be deployed on legacy Siemens Nixdorf server systems for asset tracking and hardware-fault triage. Engineers can download the SNI-BUS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SNI-BUS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Siemens Nixdorf server system

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll sniFunctionTable / sniFunctionEntry, keyed by sniBusIndex and sniDeviceSlotNo, to read sniDeviceType and sniDeviceTypeName for each populated slot, confirming that the expected adapter cards are still physically present. Comparing sniEisaSlots, sniIsaSlots, and sniPciSlots counts against the known chassis configuration would reveal if a bus segment reports fewer available slots than expected. A sniFunctionNo entry disappearing between polls at a previously populated sniDeviceSlotNo would indicate a card was removed or has failed to enumerate on the bus.

What Can Be Monitored

  • EISA/ISA/PCI slot counts
  • adapter card device type per slot
  • adapter card presence per slot
  • bus function number
  • bus type per slot
