Category: Network Management

Description: Manages internal configuration and status of W&T Com-Server serial-to-IP terminal servers.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Com-Server-Intern-MIB?

W&T (Wiesemann & Theis) Com-Server-Intern-MIB is a vendor-specific SNMP module for W&T's Com-Server family of serial-to-Ethernet terminal servers, which bridge RS-232/RS-485 serial devices onto IP networks. It exposes device identity and configuration data such as hardware/device type, MAC address, physical serial port count, cable type, and console/system password and configuration-mode settings. Critically for status monitoring it surfaces software revision and build date, MIB revision, and device run time (uptime), letting operators confirm firmware currency and detect unexpected reboots. It has no apparent dependency on other standard MIBs beyond basic SNMPv2 SMI conventions, being a self-contained enterprise module. It is typically deployed in industrial, building-automation, or lab environments where legacy serial equipment is bridged onto an IP network via a Com-Server appliance. Engineers can download the Com-Server-Intern-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Com-Server-Intern-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • W&T Com-Server serial-to-Ethernet terminal server

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll wtRunTime to confirm the Com-Server hasn't unexpectedly restarted, and check wtSwRev/wtSwDate against the vendor's latest release to flag units needing a firmware update. wtPhysPorts and wtCableType confirm the serial port count and wiring type match the expected deployment, while wtConfigMode indicates whether the unit is stuck in configuration mode instead of normal operation, which would explain a device that stopped passing serial traffic. wtMacAddress and wtDevType support asset inventory reconciliation across a fleet of serial gateways.

What Can Be Monitored

  • device uptime (run time)
  • firmware/software revision and build date
  • physical serial port count
  • cable type configuration
  • configuration mode state
  • MAC address / device identity
